After hacking, Yahoo Mail users advised to reset passwords, heed security tips

New York: Usernames and passwords of some of Yahoo's email customers have been stolen and used to gather personal information about people those Yahoo mail users have recently corresponded with, the company said Thursday. Yahoo didn't say how many accounts have been affected. Yahoo is the second-largest email service worldwide, after Google's Gmail, according to the research firm comScore. There are 273 million Yahoo mail accounts worldwide,

Yahoo resets passwords after email hack

Yahoo has been resetting email accounts that were targeted in a cyber-attack apparently aimed at collecting personal information from recently sent messages, the company has said. 

The cyber-attack was a coordinated effort by hackers who tried to log into many email accounts with stolen usernames and passwords, Yahoo said. However, the company did not mention how many accounts were affected.

Yahoo says it has identified an attempted hack on customers' email accounts. It said the usernames and passwords for accounts were likely to have been collected from a database owned by a third party that had been compromised. It has reset passwords on all affected accounts and has implemented an extra verification step when users sign in.

Malware attack hits thousands of Yahoo users per hour

Around 2.5 million Yahoo users were infected with the malicious software after the hackers seized a few advertisements of the company and used those to attack the web surfers. As per the report of the cyber security firm Fox IT to the breach, some of the advertisements were viewed by the clients from the period of 30th December to 2nd January were malware infected. CNET also explains that the users who opened the pages with the ads were then redirected to those sites,

An unspecified number of Yahoo Mail users have had their usernames and passwords compromised, the company announced late Thursday. The hack appears to have taken place via a compromised third party database, and Yahoo has taken the precaution of resetting the passwords of affected users.

Yahoo Strikes Deal To Run Contextual AdSense Ads From Google

Yahoo has announced that it will be working with Google. No, not on search-triggered advertising, Bing is still Yahoo’s exclusive partner there; but, Google will non-exclusively provide contextual ads that will appear throughout Yahoo’s properties and certain co-branded sites. The ads will come through AdSense for Content, with mobile ads provided by AdMob.
