Yahoo says detected hacking attempt on email accounts

(Reuters) - Yahoo Inc said it had detected a "coordinated effort" to gain unauthorized access to Yahoo Mail accounts using malicious computer software. The company said on its official blog that it believed that the attackers were attempting to access the accounts using credentials that had been obtained from a breach of another company's user database.

Target says hackers stole credentials from vendor
Target said Wednesday that the cyber criminals who breached its system used credentials they stole from one of the retailer's vendors. "The ongoing forensic investigation has indicated that the intruder stole a vendor's credentials, which were used to access our system," Target spokeswoman Molly Snyder said in a statement.
